The New Orleans Accordion Festival is excited to host a screening of feature-length documentary “Accordions Rising” about the re-surging interest in accordion music in the last 30-40 years. According to the filmmaker Roberta Cantow of Buffalo Rose Productions, “Though many continue to see the accordion as the stodgy instrument of a bygone era – and accordion jokes abound — it is time to set the record straight!” (accordionsrising.com/). Her documentary captures the versatility of the accordion from New York to Louisiana to explore the instrument’s role in our current culture. New Orleans’ own Bruce Sunpie Barnes is featured in an interview. The film also has conversations with accordion greats such as Guy Klucevsek and Pauline Oliveros.
