Histories of New Orleans Jazzwomen

"Count me in: Histories of New Orleans Jazzwomen"

Sherrie Tucker, professor of American Studies, at University of Kansas, will share her research on women musicians who counted among the creators of early New Orleans jazz, even when history forgets to "count them in." Drawing on research conducted she conducted for the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, Prof. Tucker will share historical background on several of the women in the cohort of New Orleans musicians who shaped the music that we now know as jazz. In addition, she will share how "counting in" the women musicians helps us to understand not only those individual women who played jazz, but the history of New Orleans jazz more broadly.

Free and open to the public, presented by the New Orleans Jazz Museum.
