The New Orleans Jazz Museum looks forward to hosting SONO 7: Stanton Moore’s Spirit of New Orleans Drum Camp, an intensive drumming camp led by instructor Stanton Moore.
ABOUT “Now in its 7th year, Stanton Moore's "Spirit of New Orleans" (SONO) drum camp has become a destination event like none other. Offering over 24 hours of hands-on, real world small group drum lessons with Grammy™ award-winning drumming superstar, author, and instructional DVD creator Stanton Moore (Galactic), SONO7 is your chance to immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and rich musical tradition of the birthplace of the modern drumset -- New Orleans. Crescent City native, Stanton Moore tailors each SONO camp to make sure each student's "need to know" topics are part of the camp's curriculum. Regardless of your drumming style, the inspiration and insight you'll experience at SONO7 will motivate and innovate your drumming for years to come.
Produced by Nine Beats USA, this exclusive 3-day music camp celebrates the legacy and rich musical tradition that is uniquely New Orleans. Students will enjoy three, 8-hour days of hands-on drumming, for a total of 24 hours of specialized, small group instruction as well as opportunities for private lessons with New Orleans drumming legends Johnny Vidacovich, “King of Treme,” Shannon Powell, John Wooton and Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra drummer, Herlin Riley. In addition, camp attendees will enjoy a Friday evening live performance from The New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars at d.b.a. and will also have the opportunity to participate in the SONO7 Finale Concert featuring The Stanton Moore Trio at New Orleans’ premier jazz club, Snug Harbor.
The camp is open to students of all ages and ability levels. The most important thing is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. The camp offers the perfect combination of personalized attention and learning with the low stress environment of small group lessons. Most of our guests have been with us for more than one camp and we look forward to adding you to our SONO family!”
