NOLA RIVER FEST: Rivers as Roads: A Poverty Point Story Map

  • New Orleans Jazz Museum 400 Esplanade Avenue New Orleans (map)

The Poverty Point World Heritage Site is a remarkable 3400-year-old archaeological site in Northeast Louisiana. This virtual lecture will discuss this site and how the Mississippi was used to transport tons of goods and raw materials from all over the mid and southeastern US. Additionally, archaeologists will explain how they know where these artifacts came from and what they tell us. This exciting lecture will make use of a story map and 3D modeled artifacts.

The eighth Annual Nola River Festival on September 21-27, 2020 celebrates the environmental, cultural, and economic impact of the Mississippi River and the land it built through live music, cooking demonstrations, presentations, panels, and walking tours that explore this year’s theme “Working on the River."

The festival is free and open to the public, hosted on Facebook. Registration for panels is optional. More information on nolariverfest.org.
