Join us for DRUMSVILLE! REDUX: A Closer Look at the Evolution of the New Orleans Beat on Thursday, December 15th at 6:00 PM CST in the Drumsville Exhibit on the second-floor of the New Orleans Jazz Museum.

The New Orleans Jazz Museum is proud to announce Drumsville! Redux, a musical celebration of Drumsville! The Evolution of the New Orleans Beat exhibit and the publication of the companion book by Robert H. Cataliotti which is published by Louisiana State University Press. The exhibit will be reintroduced to the public with previously unseen artifacts and accompanied by live performances from foremost New Orleans drummers.

Opening in November 2018, the Drumsville! The Evolution of the New Orleans Beat exhibit  traces the 300-year history of drums and drumming in New Orleans, including the invention of the drum set, which is an American instrument, and New Orleans drummers played a central role in its development. The book amplifies the exhibit’s narrative with extensive archival research and interviews with many of the city’s leading drummers and features 128 photos.

New additions to the exhibit include displays on Modern Genre-Defining Innovators (Earl Palmer, Ed Blackwell, Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste, and Leo Morris/Idris Muhammad); Women In Drumsville: It’s About Time; and Teaching the Beat: Passing It On.

The event will feature performances by Cori Walters Trio and Shannon Powell Trio as well as a cash bar and complimentary hors d'oeuvres.
