(Background on the band and how it is formed) Louisiana Music Educators Association (L.M.E.A.) District VI

Is made up of all schools (public, private, charter, and parochial) in Jefferson Parish, Orleans Parish, Plaquemines Parish, and Saint Bernard Parish. Students are required to participate in a blind audition where professional music educators adjudicate each young musician’s playing ability individually. After the audition process District VI selecta the top young musicians in the local area. District VI forms a traditional big band for each level (Junior High Honor Jazz Band and Senior High Honor Jazz Band.) Students get two days to work with a guest clinician and prepare a program for performance. What you will hear from these two groups is a culmination of hardwork and dedication from local young student musicians. The tireless work and dedication from the selected young musicians is what is keeping local jazz and jazz education alive today. If you have any questions or wish to support the work L.M.E.A.
