Barbara Shorts
New Orleans has nurtured, many forms of music, jazz, gospel, rhythm and blues. Elements of all these forms can be heard when a native New Orleans Musician performs because, there are no solid dividing lines between them. So it is with singer Legendary Barbara Ann Shorts. To call her a Jazz Singer would be accurate yet limiting. You would believe her to be a gospel singer to hear her embrace a spiritual, but could also see her get down and dirty while belting out the Blues. She is simply New Orleans music personified. Whether she is performing in a theatrical production, in front of an orchestra , or with just a three piece combo, Barbara has her own special presence on stage that draws the audience into her music. Barbara is one of a few female native vocalist that is still carrying on her many styles of traditional music. Like throwing various forms into a pot of gumbo. Barbara Ann Shorts always serves it up spicy.
