Chess Master Jude Acers has set up his "World Chess Table" on Decatur Street in the New Orleans French Quarter since 1981, where he continues to play all comers for $5 a game. This is his story.
The film's director, Derek Bridges, studied Journalism as an undergraduate at Illinois State University and also has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Florida. He is the Videographer for the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. The film's director of photography, Kaitlin Hanrahan, is a Sociology graduate from Loyola University New Orleans. Bridges and Hanrahan produced the documentary over a 12-year period. "The Man in the Red Beret" recently won the Best Feature Documentary Award at the Abita Springs International Film Festival.
Jude turns 80 on April 6 and will be in attendance.
