Join us for the Exhibit Opening of Louis Armstrong on Thursday, August 1st at 6:00 PM CST on the second floor at the New Orleans Jazz Museum.
We're thrilled to kick off our latest exhibit, "It All Started in Jane Alley: Louis Armstrong in New Orleans," on Thursday, August 1st at 6 PM. Sponsored by Blue Plate Mayo, this special event also features "Po-Boy Stories: A Celebration of Gary 'Koz' Gruenig and Vance Vaucresson," hosted by Gerald Gruenig.
The reception will feature a performance by James Andrews & The Crescent City All-Stars, and we’ll be serving a variety of Po-Boys provided by Blue Plate Mayonnaise, along with the New Orleans staple — red beans and rice.
Celebrate the rich culinary and musical heritage of New Orleans with us and dive into the life of Satchmo himself! And don't miss Satchmo SummerFest from August 3&4, where the exhibit will be open to festivalgoers.
Louis Armstrong
Louis Armstrong will always be synonymous with New Orleans. He learned so much about people, about music, about racism, about food and about life in the years he spent there. When he left in 1922 to conquer the world, he brought those New Orleans values everywhere he traveled. A day did not go by where Armstrong didn’t reflect on his beloved hometown.
“It All Started in Jane Alley: Louis Armstrong in New Orleans” delves into Louis’ time growing up in New Orleans and several of his return trips. Via photos, artifacts, and writings, this exhibit shows how Armstrong lived in New Orleans and how it shaped him. The cornet that he played during his time in the Colored Waifs’ Home will be featured. The exhibit also serves to complement the recently opened “From Congo Square to the World: Early Jazz In New Orleans.”
A big thank you to our sponsors: Blue Plate Mayonnaise, Beam Suntory, Vaucresson Sausage Company, and Positive Vibrations Foundation. Mark your calendars for a night of jazz, history, and delicious stories! #LouisArmstrong #NOLAJazz #PoBoyStories #SatchmoSummerFest #NewOrleansJazzMuseum.
