Artist bio:
Professor Longhair was a legendary New Orleans pianist and singer whose unique blend of rumba, boogie-woogie, blues, and Caribbean rhythms helped define the city’s musical identity. Known for classics like “Tipitina” and “Mardi Gras in New Orleans,” his playful, percussive piano style influenced generations of musicians, from Dr. John to Allen Toussaint. After a mid-career revival in the 1970s, he became an icon of New Orleans culture, and the music venue Tipitina’s was named in his honor.
