Claus Walkstein presents: Jazz en route to France
This event is free and open to the public.
Claus Walkstein is Associate Professor in Social Psychology and Epistemology at the University of Nantes. As a researcher and a musician, he is particularly interested in the psycho-sociological and representational aspects of the emergence of jazz culture, which he scrutinizes from a socio-cultural and economic point of view as a way to reach prosperity and social recognition.
Claus Walkstein has given talks on traditional New Orleans jazz as a cultural "product", i.e., as a commercial good that involves various social, commercial, and economical issues and strategies. He is currently working on the representations of jazz in a trans-cultural dynamic, focusing on an analysis of newspaper articles from American and French press.
He is also the President and co-founder of the Pays de la Loire France Preservation Jazz Association.
