Ethnografilm is co-sponsored by the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and the Society for Social Studies of Science (4S).
We celebrate the art and science of non-fiction filmmaking and promote the field of video ethnography, serving as a showcase for work and forum for dialog between independent and academic documentary filmmakers.
Marked by its contemporary relevance and broad intellectual range, the objective of Ethnografilm is to promote the examination of cultures as well as social issues, describing “patterns of living” throughout the world to educate and entertain.
We honor passion in the acquisition of moving images. We encourage creativity in the editing of those images. And we revere the spirit of both academic and independent filmmakers whose exhibitions expand our knowledge and increase our understanding of the social world.
The second annual New Orleans edition of Ethnografilm is a moment to cherish for all those who love this style of scholarship and film making.
We thank the Society for Social Studies of Science and the International Social Science Council who have been instrumental in implementing the vision of a festival to celebrate excellence in movies that enhance our understanding of the social world.
Free and open to the public.
