New Orleans Folkloric is a group of New Orleans born drummers, singers and dancers preserving New Orleans street rhythms, dance and song style. We continue the legacy that ended in Congo Square of coming together to elevate the spirit. Even though drumming was eventually banned, the rhythms live on through the people. We use different acoustic instruments, some of which we have made with the intent to capture the spirit of the land.
Group members:
Peter Boutte - vocals, congas, racacha
Ruben Watts - congas, spirit drum, all percussion, vocals, dance
Bava Alonzo - congas, racacha
Free and open to the public, presented by the New Orleans Jazz Museum and New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park.
