QUARANTUNES from the Archive: Remembering Alfred "Uganda" Roberts

alfredroberts.jpg

In honor of the life of Alfred "Uganda" Roberts, we're proud to present this special archival footage of concerts and programs we've done with Uganda over the years. Rest in peace, dear friend.

"Alfred "Uganda" Roberts was in a class by himself. He exponentially elevated every musical endeavor in which he participated. Whether it was with the Wild Magnolias or Juice, he made the music much better. His work with Professor Longhair meshed immaculately with Fess' rhumba-boogie piano. It took the music back to the Caribbean and Africa, as well as showed the future of what the music of New Orleans could be. When he walked into the room, he was automatically the coolest cat there." - David Kunian, New Orleans Jazz Museum Music Curator
