NOLA RIVER FEST: Riverfront Faces

  • New Orleans Jazz Museum 400 Esplanade Avenue New Orleans (map)

Documentary photographer and social activist Keith Calhoun, will discuss his life’s work in this virtual lecture. He began with photographing African American dockworkers, part of a project which documented disappearing labor forces. Eventually, his work led him to document the prison industrial complex in Louisiana. His most recent project has been the civil rights movement of the ’60s and how this movement involved and affected the dockworkers of the Mississippi.

The eighth Annual Nola River Festival on September 21-27, 2020 celebrates the environmental, cultural, and economic impact of the Mississippi River and the land it built through live music, cooking demonstrations, presentations, panels, and walking tours that explore this year’s theme “Working on the River."

The festival is free and open to the public, hosted on Facebook. Registration for panels is optional. More information on nolariverfest.org.
