About Wild Magnolias
Wild Magnolias featuring Chief Bo Dollis, Jr. is a short documentary that will be followed by an audience interactive discussion with Chief Dollis. Alexandra Kern, the filmmaker, will also be in attendance. This documentary has been entered in this year's New Orleans Film Fest which is November 3, 2022 - November 8, 2022.
Wild Magnolias follows Chief Bo Dollis Jr. teaching his proteges, Corey and Alvon, the virtues of being a Mardi Gras Indian, a subculture in New Orleans that instills pride, patience, and humility through the detailed craft of stitching and sewing. This is a film about the process, what happens all the way up to the presentation of the suit, and how the practice is a one-of-a-kind creative and cultural outlet for the younger generation involved.
