The New Orleans native credits her hometown for shaping her musical palette. Watson Memorial Teaching Ministries was the first place Jade began to sing in front of audiences. Her church home has shaped and molded her into the performer that she is today. Yet, she became a skilled musician when she joined the Edna Karr High School marching band. Jade performed with Edna Karr's marching band in the 2016 New Year's Day Parade in London, UK.
Her parents continued to support Jade's musical journey and encouraged her to join Musicollaborative and New Orleans Jazz Heritage School of Music in 2016. When she was a part of those organizations, she studied New Orleans music, culture, and history. In 2021, she graduated from the illustrious Xavier University of Louisiana. In 2018, Jade traveled to New York City, NY to compose original music for a performance-based project titled Organology under the direction of Ross Louis, Ph.D.
These experiences have led her to work at the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park (NOJNHP) as an interpretive park ranger. Her responsibilities are like no other park ranger in the U.S. Jade performs New Orleans traditional jazz, blues, funk, soul, and r&b with the Arrowhead Jazz Band. Jade shares the bandstand with top musicians like Herlin Riley, Nicholas Payton, and Amina Scott weekly at the New Orleans Jazz Museum. She writes original music for special programs that the NOJNHP sponsors and hosts. While being a musician is required of her, she also focuses on historical research and preservation. While pursuing her master’s degree at the University of New Orleans with a focus in jazz studies, she hopes to incorporate the skills that she learns in the program into her workspace and bandstand. Jade has a passion for enlightening and uplifting people from various backgrounds via Black American Music.
Jemila Dunham

First introduced to the art form through the violin, she later moved to the alto saxophone, which she played in Lusher’s middle school jazz band, directed by guitarist Dan Sumner. Looking to explore as many musical interests as possible, Jemila eventually found her way to the bass guitar and began studying year-round with prominent musicians in New Orleans including Brian Quezergue, Kidd Jordan, Kent Jordan, Jonathan Bloom, Germaine Bazzle, Donald Harrison Jr., Christian Scott, and Jesse McBride. After studying with many of the best jazz musicians in the city, she continued her education at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where she expanded her views of what was musically possible for her beyond her jazz roots.

After graduating with a BFA in professional music in 2013, Jemila moved to New York to continue her journey playing with rising pop star and fellow Berklee alum, Betty Who. Since finishing at Berklee, Jemila has traveled the world as Betty’s bassist, performing at various festivals, on 9 headlining tours, and as direct support for the Australian legs of both Katy Perry and Kylie Minogue’s world tours.
