The Kitchen
The Kitchen formed as a group of musicians trained in the craft of jazz and enthralled by the languages of R&B, rock, and soul. Sampling elements from each of these genres, The Kitchen produces a sound that is uniquely their own. Having earned praise from lay listeners and critical music practitioners alike, the group balances technical knowledge and creative imagination to send out a captivating vibe. As a seven-piece collective, the members of The Kitchen inspire each other with their individual perspectives. Antonia Villafranca, the vocalist, is nothing short of a showstopper. Jaws drop in the audience when she sings into the microphone, as her powerful voice and magnetic stage presence hypnotizes the crowd. Ben Brimer is the pianist, and having been a musician and songwriter from a young age he brings experience and technical knowledge to contribute to the songwriting and orchestration process. Noah Houk, on the bass, began practicing his instrument just three years ago, but with a powerful intuition and background listening to punk, R&B, and Hip Hop his sense of aesthetics often materializes into beautiful songs.
Amaya Benzaquin-Magill is the drummer, and she comes from a family of musicians. She is steeped in music as a language and has a good ear for laying down a solid groove that is the backbone of the music. Hanyu You is a young trombone player with unbelievable talent and potential. Already he has been invited to play with Trumpet Mafia, one of New Orleans’ most acclaimed brass groups. Hanyu’s solos on stage are a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Nathan Rich is a smooth saxophone player and has an ear for pitch and texture. He brings a sound out of his horn that is butter smooth and perfectly balanced. Finally, Wilson Miller is a trumpet player who, coming from a marching band background, produces a strong, crisp, and even sound from his horn. His supporting accompaniment and knowledge of harmony is the secret ingredient which makes the group’s horn harmonies so delicious. The Kitchen’s originals have been crowd favorites from their sets, as they convey energy, poetry, and stellar instrumentation. For their success as such a young band, The Kitchen is a very exciting up and coming fusion group in New Orleans.
