Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration "Geovane Santos Trio"

The New Orleans Jazz Museum in partnership with the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park & NOLAxNOLA are proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Starting Friday, September 20th through Friday, November 8th, you can enjoy weekly live music performances as we honor Hispanic Heritage Month. Prepare to immerse yourself in the vibrant cultures and traditions of  Latin America through these captivating performances.  The concerts will be held inside our Education Center every Friday @ 2 PM with two special Balcony shows in the museum’s courtyard on Tuesday, September 24th & Tuesday, October 15th starting at 5:00 PM.”

Geovane Santos

 Geovane Santos, an Afro Brazilian hailing from Belo Horizonte and currently residing in New Orleans, is a versatile artist who excels as a guitarist, vocalist, composer, researcher, photographer, videographer, and educator. His remarkable talent has garnered recognition, including the prestigious 2017 Louis Armstrong Foundation Jazz Composer Award presented by ASCAP in collaboration with the University of New Orleans (UNO).

Santos' artistic endeavors and scholarly pursuits revolve around the exploration of race, transculturation, cultural appropriation, and the intricate processes of narrative construction in music. His creative output and academic studies intersect to shed light on these complex themes.

The creator of New Orleans Brasil Day and renowned for his exceptional musical skills, Santos has been acclaimed as New Orleans' "best Brazilian jazz guitarist" by OffBeat Magazine. With a Master of Arts in Jazz Studies from UNO, he is now pursuing a Ph.D. in the Latin American Studies program at Tulane University, where he is engaged in the community as a scholar with fellowships with the Mellon Foundation and the New Orleans Center for the Gulf South.

Concomitantly with his dissertation research, Santos is currently immersed in the development of a captivating multimedia project that delves into memory, heritage, equity, and cultural relevance. His innovative work promises to captivate audiences and contribute to the cultural landscape.
