Abe Thompson and the Doctors of Funk
Abe Thompson and The Doctors of Funk have been playing music together for the last 2 years as a group. Abe Thompson aka Nbugu Kenyatta is the leader and founder of the band. He is also the leader of three other bands ( ARRK-TU, The Kenyatta Trio, and The Kenyatta Funksters). Abe used musicians from New Orleans with whom he played in college at SUNO, under the direction of Edward” Kidd” Jordan, where he received his B.A in music. The band performs all genres of music, especially New Orleans music, including The Meters, Willie T, The Neville Brothers, and a host of other local greats. They play all genres of music such as traditional New Orleans music as well as R&B, Reggae, Funk, Jazz (all types), Zydeco, Blues, and a large variety of other music.
