George Porter Jr. is a legendary New Orleans bassist, best known as a founding member of the pioneering funk band The Meters. A cornerstone of the city’s musical identity, Porter has laid down grooves for decades—both with The Meters and as a sought-after session musician for artists like Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, Paul McCartney, and the Grateful Dead. He currently leads his own group, George Porter Jr. & the Runnin’ Pardners, and remains an active force in funk, bringing his signature style to stages around the world. Widely respected for his influence and innovation, Porter was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and continues to shape generations of musicians with his deep musical wisdom and unmistakable bass lines.
