NOLA Thru My Eyes Photography Camp

  • New Orleans Jazz Museum Education Center 400 Esplanade Ave. New Orleans United States (map)

NOLA Thru My Eyes Photography Camp is an outreach program founded by Carol Harris of the N’Awlins D’Awlins Baby Dolls and led by photographer Linda A. Reno. Designed for New Orleans youth aged 10–15, it teaches visual storytelling so they can document their culture authentically. Unlike traditional documentation by outsiders, this initiative empowers kids who are part of New Orleans street culture to create and control their own narrative through photography. The camp aims to foster creative expression, preserve local history, and offer a positive alternative to crime.

Carol Harris, a lifelong New Orleanian and Cultural Bearer, has launched several programs celebrating city traditions, including annual blessings and cultural festivals. Linda A. Reno, a photojournalist and educator, focuses her work on documenting subcultures and teaching photography to local youth, with an extensive portfolio of Second Line images reflecting New Orleans’ African-rooted cultural practices.
