Arte Reviver Capoeira is the first "Regional" style Capoeira group on the Gulf Coast and has been in the area since December 2006 with the arrival of Mestre Cocada. With the formation of the Capoeira and Brazilian Cultural Arts Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we set out on a mission of expanding awareness of Brazilian culture through Capoeira here in our beloved city. Capoeira is a martial art with influences from African and Brazilian cultures. The dance brings together musicians, performers, and group leaders and is a national sport rooted in Afro-Brazilian history from enslaved people of the Portuguese colony. Manuel dos Reis, also known as Mestre Bimba, refined the martial art into a more structured form of dance-fighting that spread from northeastern Brazil to the rest of the country as capoeira regional.

Our goal is to use Capoeira as a transformative tool to enhance health, wellness, kindness, self-respect, and self-confidence for individuals of all ages and abilities across the greater New Orleans area. One of our newest programs, Distinctive Warriors, provides an inclusive space for youth with diverse abilities to build confidence, strength, and community through Capoeira. In addition to offering a variety of classes, we serve as a safe, inclusive space where youth and adults alike, can explore music, arts, physical education, and cultural heritage, fostering personal growth and community connection. 

This demonstration will be in our third-floor venue, the Performance Center. Admission is free to the New Orleans Jazz Museum third floor Performance Center. Come and listen or participate!
