The Public Archaeology Day, co-hosted by the Society for Historical Archaeology (SHA) and the New Orleans Jazz Museum, is a free and family-friendly event featuring archaeologists, educational displays, lectures, and activities geared toward the general public. As part of the SHA Annual Conference, this year’s Public Archaeology Day will focus on heritage stewardship at the local level; highlighting some of the important work occurring within Louisiana.
Come explore over 15 exhibits featuring cultural resource firms, universities, State and Federal Agencies, professional organizations, heritage artists, and much more! Throughout the day lectures will be presented by the Louisiana Division of Archaeology, Louisiana Archaeology Society, Louisiana Public Archeology Lab, and Texas Historical Commission. In addition, the Florida Public Archaeology Network will give an “Introduction to Archaeology” presentation geared toward children.
The event will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint, 400 Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70116 from 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m. With the generous support of the New Orleans Jazz Museum, admission fees will be waived during the Public Archaeology Day.
