Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic is one of the New Orleans Jazz Museum’s longest-standing international cultural exchange partners. Each spring, the Museum leads a cultural exchange mission in partnership with Dominican NOLA Fest founder Fermín Ceballos and local partners throughout the country. The program brings together artists, educators, students, business leaders, and government representatives to foster cultural understanding, professional development, and lasting international relationships.
Expanding access to music and arts education remains central to the exchange. Program activities have included instrument donations, workshops, leadership development opportunities, performances, festivals, and community events that support students, emerging artists, and cultural organizations. These initiatives help expand access to educational resources while creating opportunities for artistic growth and collaboration.
Over the years, the Museum has developed strong partnerships with municipalities, universities, cultural institutions, and government agencies across the Dominican Republic. Through educational programming, resource sharing, and collaborative projects, the exchange promotes cultural preservation, tourism, and international engagement while highlighting the deep historical and cultural connections between New Orleans and the Caribbean.
Music serves as the foundation of the exchange experience. Performances, workshops, festivals, and community events bring together artists from New Orleans and the Dominican Republic to share traditions, explore common influences, and create new artistic collaborations. These experiences highlight the enduring cultural connections between the Caribbean and New Orleans.
