Davy Mooney performs a special CD release concert for his new Sunnyside Records album "Hope of Home." Joining Mooney is the all-star ensemble from the album: the legendary Brian Blade on drums (Wayne Shorter, Joni Mitchell), Jon Cowherd on piano (Cassandra Wilson, Roseanne Cash), John Ellis on saxes (Double Wide, John Patitucci), and Matt Clohesy (Seamus Blake). "Hope of Home" is Mooney's first release since returning to New Orleans from New York, where he lived on and off since 2005's Hurricane Katrina. The album and the ensemble are a special blend of sophisticated New York modern jazz and New Orleans soul and groove. Blade, Cowherd, and Ellis all studied music in New Orleans, and there is a deep connection between the members of the group, based on this common heritage.
"Hope of Home" is Mooney's second Sunnyside Records release (after 2012's "Perrier St), and Mooney has also recorded albums with John Pizzarelli (2009's "Last Train Home") and performed with Terence Blanchard, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Herbie Hancock, and many others.
There will be two performances this evening, one at 7:00pm, and another at 9:00pm. Tickets are $21.00 and will be available at the door or online.
