April Programs at the New Orleans Jazz Museum

[ NEW ORLEANS, LA - April 26, 2021 ] In lieu of traditional Jazz Fest season celebrations in the last week of April, the New Orleans Jazz Museum will offer a series of virtual and in-person events to mark springtime in New Orleans. These events will be hosted in addition to usual daytime virtual programming. 

These programs will explore New Orleans culture through a diverse mix of performances, exhibition, film screening, educational initiatives, and culinary experiences. We invite our local and global audience to enjoy our virtual offerings, and we will open select events to a limited number of guests in compliance with COVID-19 safety guidelines. Specific guidelines are outlined on our website: nolajazzmuseum.org.

  • ALL-STAR BRASS BAND TRIBUTE TO TUBA PHIL FRAZIER On Tuesday, April 27, at 5PM CDT, the New Orleans Jazz Museum will welcome a limited number of guests for a performance honoring the career of Tuba Phil Frazier of Rebirth Brass Band. The event is free and open to the public, and the livestream will be available on facebook.com/nolajazzmuseum/live. Please note that attendance is first come, first served for a limited in-person audience. Doors will open at 4:30PM. 

  • KERMIT RUFFINS COURTYARD CONCERT On Wednesday, April 28, at 5PM CDT, the New Orleans Jazz Museum will host a ticketed concert by Kermit Ruffins with catering by Clesi’s Seafood and an open bar by Seven Three Distilling Co. A limited number of tickets and patron tables are available now at kermitjazz.eventbrite.com. The virtual stream will begin at 5PM on facebook.com/nolajazzmuseum/live

  • FROM THE FAT MAN TO MAHALIA: JAMES MICHALOPOULOS EXHIBIT OPENING On Thursday, April 29, the New Orleans Jazz Museum will open a new exhibit in collaboration with Michalopoulos Gallery. The exhibit, From the Fat Man to Mahalia: James Michalopoulos’ Music Paintings, combines the collections of the Jazz Museum and gallery. Registration for the opening has closed; however, guests are welcome to explore the exhibit during normal business hours, Tuesday through Sunday. Performances by the Adonis Rose Ensemble and Molly Reeves Trio will be streamed on facebook.com/nolajazzmuseum/live starting at 6PM.

  • INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY On Friday, April 30, the New Orleans Jazz Museum will host a day-long virtual celebration of International Jazz Day, a UNESCO project. Join us on Facebook for a variety of performances by local and international artists, including student musicians. Programming will begin at 10:30AM CDT. We welcome a limited  in-person audience for a free outdoor performance by Amina Scott at 5PM. Attendance is first come, first served. Doors will open at 4:30PM.

  • DAN PRITZKER’S BOLDEN FEAT. CALVIN JOHNSON On Saturday, May 1, at 7PM, guests will enjoy a screening of Dan Pritzker’s BOLDEN following a performance by Calvin Johnson and a Q&A session about the film. Admission includes an open bar by Seven Three Distilling Co and catering by Bywater Bakery. A limited number of tickets are available at bolden.eventbrite.com.

We hope our audience will join us and enjoy these exciting programs. All proceeds benefit the New Orleans Jazz Museum, creating opportunities for jazz performance and education in New Orleans.
